Late May Frost!
Last night: went in the city, got a top bar hive and a couple bee suits. in the city, it was a little chilly, but when we got back out here, it was cold. I chalked it up to heat island and my tiredness.
This morning: Nightshades were dead! bees were ok.
After work: bees look to be doing fine, busy and all. two volunteer brassicas were still living in amongst the nightshades, and the nightshades had that dark green “we died of cold” look. Cleaned out the chicken food container (a decommissioned deep freeze next to their pen). couple neighbours wandered over. The second one said he had frost on his bridge over the creek in back early this morning. we looked at the wind tears in the greenhouse. Burned a pile of juniper bushes, I was a little worried at first cause it was close-ish to the hive. but it was 30 feet away, and not in the flight path, stacked some bigger logs where the rabid skunk got burned, just trying to burn the bones so friends dogs don’t dig through the fire pit and get rabies from ‘em. lots of weeds pulled from a fallow bed, gonna plant flowers in it. some weed whipping around.
I really need a camera for pictures of things around.
